Can you tell us a little bit about what you do and when you got into it?
I own two clothing businesses, Cake For Breakfast which is a fun women’s graphic t-shirt line, and MACCS which is an online retail shop, however we have just announced that we are working on transitioning this shop to our own brand – MACCS the label which is a Vancouver designed label inspired by Australian style.
I also write a little fashion blog Cake For Breakfast Blog. I first got into designing and playing with fashion when I was working in the finance industry and studying marketing at KPU. Like most, I started a fashion/lifestyle blog as a way of breaking away from the everyday and create a world all my own consisting of things that inspire me. It was a little while later when I launched Cake For Breakfast which started as a jewelry line.
I soon transitioned into graphic tees and with the overwhelming response decided to focus on expanding the brand as a clothing line. We now create multiple collections a year and are stocked throughout Canada and the United States. I more recently launched MACCS, an online shop carrying only Australian labels. I have such an obsession with the Aussie style and thought this would be a fun way to show off my edgier more boho side.
When we first launched in October of 2014 we were the first retailer in all of Canada to stock the labels we do – we wanted to bring something different to the Canadian market and the Canadian consumer. With the success of MACCS as an online retailer we recently made the decision to transition into our own brand. I am so incredibly excited for this new project and can’t wait to share all the fun pieces we’ve been working on.
How was 2015? Any major highlights?
2015 was a wonderful year. I was actually just talking with my husband about 2015 and I think it was definitely a year of learning. Both my husband and I jumped into new business ventures and we learned a lot in a short amount of time. I’m excited to take what we learned in 2015 and apply it to our work in 2016. As far as highlights, I think just watching our businesses grow, moving to our new apartment, and watching my sister walk down the aisle.
What song have you got on repeat at the moment?
Work – Rihanna ft Drake. I’m also addicted to listening to Kylie radio on the Kylie app – so bad I know ha!
What fashion advice do you have for a man?
I like when guys stick to the basics, a great fitted pair of jeans, and a casual tee. I also think all men should invest in a great pair of sunnies. Lastly, I am loving the wide brimmed hat trend for guys, and for some reason when the hubs wears a slouchy beanie it makes me weak in the knees ha!
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?
This is super cliche but I think I would tell myself to relax, and that everything is going to work out. When I was in school and working at the bank I had many tear-filled nights feeling frustrated and confused with my life and what I really wanted to make of it.
1 tip to grow your Instagram account
I think to keep the content fresh, informative and natural. I’ve also recently found trying your best to make your page look inviting and ascetically pleasing – one thing I always do is upload my Instagram to VSCO cam so I can see what it will look like in the grand scheme of the page before actually posting – you could love the photo but next to a recent picture it could make everything look off.
What’s the one thing you never want to see a guy wearing?
Any trend from 2006 – pink polo, puka shells, frosted tips LOL! Watch, soon those will make a come back.
Any major plans for 2016?
2016 will be spent focusing on MACCS the label as well as my blog. It will also be focused on traveling new places and creating great content in every new city.
What is your one guilty pleasure?
Anything sweet, wine, and the Kardashians.
Who’s the most stylish man on the planet for you right now?
Well, my husband of course! No, he’s actually surprisingly stylish and everything manages to look good on him – lucky guy!
