Can you tell us a little bit about what you do and when you got into it?
The truth is that I’ve always tried to do what I love and since I was little I had great interest for photography. At 13 I had my first camera and I remember very well that at family and friends’ parties I was always the one taking pictures. At 15 I had the chance to work with a photographer before I moved into the city and it was thanks to her that my interest in photography became a great love.
At 16 I was living in Mexico City and I had the opportunity to work with Mexican singer-songwriter Jaime Kohen, which I did for two and a half years. Later on I moved into the fashion world with Paloma Lira, she is a great Mexican designer and it was there that I learned all that goes behind the scenes in the fashion industry. After that I started working with Alexia Ulibarri, another great Mexican designer, but during that process I learned that I didn’t want to be in the creation of fashion, making collections and clothing. Instead I wanted to be the one taking pictures, that’s when I left that side of the fashion world and started working with Alberto Hidalgo, an internationally recognised photographer. I learn everyday with him and hopefully someday I’ll be a great photographer.
How’s 2015 been for you? Any major highlights?
2015 was a great year for me. I had the opportunity to travel to Cuba and Los Angeles, I came back from watching my favourite band, Florence + The Machine and above all I’ve kept doing what I believe in and ignoring negative comments so that I can become the best that I can be.
What song have you got on repeat at the moment?
Delilah by Florence + The Machine. I think they are a magical band and have a lot of positive messages in their songs.
What fashion advice do you have for a man?
Always dress how you like and pick your clothes according to your personality. Obviously try to avoid being cheesy and try to add a bit of elegance.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be
Never listen when they say you can’t make it or you’re not good enough to do something. If you don’t try how will you know? It’s never good to leave something you want to do, always take a risk and be brave no matter what the outcome is.
1 tip to grow your Instagram account
Never copy the style of other accounts, try to be creative and make sure all the pictures be yours. Creativity is born on its own and so are ideas, but your own style is always with them and that’s what makes us unique. So make it interesting when you publish something.
What’s the one thing you never want to see a guy wearing?
Insecurity. I believe that’s the worst thing one can carry on their back. Insecurity holds us back, doesn’t allow us to move forward and see the future. The street is like a runway and insecurity is a stumble that can be overcome. Get up and shake it off.
Any major plans for 2016?
I have some trips confirmed for this year: I’m going to Peru in spring and Chicago for the summer. I want to learn as much as possible form Alberto Hildalgo and mostly I want to keep improving as a person. I’ve worked very hard during five years for what I want. I always remember why I started and my motivation to keep going. I would like to return to NYC and take photography classes too.
Who’s the most stylish man on the planet for you right now?
Right now I can’t answer that question, because I admire the styles of so many people that it’s hard for me to answer just one.
What is your one guilty pleasure?
My favourite restaurant in Mexico City is called MOG. Its a Japanese bistro that has delicious food. I love everything about it; the vintage decoration that looks like its about to fall, the amazing dishes and it’s very funny because they already know me and know exactly what I always ask for.
