At The Idle Man, we love nothing more than talking to revolutionary and fashion-conscious bloggers, stealing glimpses into their lives and bringing them to you in our Best of the Web series. This week, we’ve managed to catch up with Brenna Lyden, an incredibly driven woman, who is causing a stir with her fashion ideas and couture dress company.
At just 22, Brenna has already achieved more than most people do in a lifetime. She’s a blogger, a jewellery designer and CEO of up-and-coming company Third & Loom. We decided to sit down with her to chat a bit about fashion, her plans for the future, and what she never wants to see a man wearing.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do and when you got into it?
I wear many hats (sorry about the bad fashion pun from the get go). I am a successful fashion blogger (behind Chic Street Style), a stylist, the CEO of Third & Loom as well as having my own jewellery line, Everly.
I’m only 22, so right out of college, I was recruited to be a buyer for Nordstrom. I did that for a few months before I realized I had too strong of an entrepreneurial spirit and made the brave choice to walk away. From there, I was a full-time fashion blogger and ran my jewellery line for a whole week before I was approached to be the CEO for Third & Loom. I thought about it for a whole two seconds before saying yes, because that is truly my dream job.
What is Third & Loom?
Third & Loom is a custom dress company that brings the couture experience to everyone. If you can dream it, sketch it, or find it on Pinterest, we are the ones that make it happen. We offer the very highest possible quality and the lowest possible prices and we ship your custom gown in 4-8 weeks (even wedding dresses!).
How’s your year been so far? Any major highlights?
I was just featured in Seattle Magazine for my styling company so that was a great start to a new year! I also just expanded my jewellery collection to include fashion jewellery – another exciting step. All of this while planning my wedding that takes place this summer. The best kind of chaos.
What song have you got on repeat at the moment?
My fiancé, Zach, is addicted to R&B covers of mainstream hip hop songs, namely Devon Terell covers. So whatever he is listening to, I normally follow suit.
What fashion advice do you have for a man?
My fiancé is such a sharp dresser, so I really lucked out there. He handles all of my men’s styling, so he would say invest in blazers, great shoes and pocket squares. He is convinced that double-breasted blazers are God’s gift to men.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?
To follow my gut more and that it’s ok not to take the safe route. Even at my young age, I’ve had a very unorthodox career path. But every time I listened to my gut (like when I left Nordstrom) I’ve ended up in a better spot because of it. Work relentlessly, be tenacious and follow your dreams and no-one else’s.
1 tip to grow your Instagram account?
Create compelling content and find your niche. I know my style is a high-low mix that ends up being a classy version of trendy. I know I’m targeting women in their 20s and 30s primarily (even though I’ve had everyone from 14-year-olds to 75-year-olds contact me saying they are dedicated followers). Use well-lit spaces, and harsh sun is not your friend, contrary to what people think. If you’re a beginner, always shoot on a cloudy day or in the shade (or just live in Seattle, like I do).
What’s the one thing you never want to see a guy wearing?
Bro tanks. Like I said before, my fiancé always looks so handsome and clean cut (which I think is the sexiest for almost all women), but the guys who try to show off their muscles in barely-there muscle shirts outside of the gym – not attractive. I’d rather see muscles busting out of a suit any day.
Any major plans for 2016?
On August 11th, I get to marry my partner in not only business but life. We have plans to travel to Vietnam and somewhere exciting for our honeymoon (I’m rallying for the Maldives). But every day I just want to move the needle in all of our businesses and explode Third & Loom to a $100 million company.
Who’s the most stylish man on the planet for you right now?
Without a doubt, my fiancé. In a casual city like Seattle, he just stands out. Unbuttoned dress shirts with tailored blazers are a daily wear for him. Everyone thinks I’m the stylish one until they see Zach and realize he’s giving me a run for my money.
What is your one guilty pleasure?
I’m by my very nature an extremist so I get addicted to things in phases. Right now it’s coconut boba tea!
