IN: The Quiff

As one of the most versatile hairstyles for men out there, the men’s quiff hairstyle can sit well with both casual getups as well as smarter alternatives. From a three-piece suit to a simple jeans and T-shirt ensemble – a quiff will complement almost every man’s personal style. Ted’s Master Barber expects the quiffs adaptable nature will keep it at the top of men’s hairstyle trend pile for 2017.

How To Get a Quiff

The essence of a quiff is all in the texture and length; an effortless look to maintain. Once you’ve got a decent bit of hair to play with and some quality products you’re already halfway there. As the most popular of all variants, the short quiff, textured or messy quiff has reigned supreme over the last year. It has been seen on the likes of Zayn Malik and, of course, the classic David Beckham quiff.

Apply a smidge of hair putty or clay (both great for adding texture) to wet hair, and simply comb the product through your hair in the direction you’d like your quiff to take. From there, blow dry your hair upwards to add volume, using a cylinder brush for maximum height.

IN: Middle Parting

Admittedly, this is one 1990’s men’s hairstyles we didn’t expect to return anytime soon. The Leonardo DiCaprio / Brendan Fraser haircut was very popular on the runways with middle parting hairstyles ruling the catwalks from designers such as Gucci, Prada and Versace. Not really suited to everyone, a middle parting is most flattering for guys with angular or oval face shapes and relatively straight hair. Beware: this hairstyle will most likely have many girls swooning over you – you’ve been warned.

How To Get a Middle Parting

Quick, easy and relatively maintenance free; apply a pea-size amount of wax in your hands and warm it up by rubbing it between your palms. Simply work the product through your hair from roots to tips for added texture. If you’d prefer a more matte finish, just opt for a quality clay product instead of a wax.

IN: Classic Side Parting

2017 saw a plethora of classic, time-honoured styles becoming prominent on our screens with 50 Shades of Grey and Peaky Blinders leading the pack when it comes to men’s hair inspiration. Ted’s Master Barber expects this to have a direct knock-on effect with a noticeable increase in styles like the classic side parting hairstyles becoming more popular already.

How To Do a Side Parting

An easy to maintain and inexpensive style, ask your barber for one inch on the back and sides, with up to four inches of length on top. Before you head out, apply some gel or pomade to wet hair and slick a comb through to set a parting. You can then blow dry this through for a more natural finish or simply apply some hairspray on top to maintain a slick appearance.

IN: Grey / Silver Hair

Possibly the most daring of men’s hairstyles trends, men’s grey hair has been one of the biggest colour trends for men this year with the likes of Justin Bieber, Lucky Blue Smith and Zayn Malik leading the growing pack of men daring to dye. As with all colours, grey will suit certain men’s skin tones more than others, however, there’s really no way to be sure without experimenting. When you dye your hair a lighter colour, be wary of the fact that your routes will eventually show meaning there will be a considerate amount of upkeep.

How To Get a Grey Hair

There’s obviously ways you can achieve the slate look from your bedroom but we’d always recommend paying a visit to a professional – especially for your first time. If you have dark hair this will be a harder look to achieve as it will involve bleach. If you’re a bleah newbie then please, just go to a salon. But if you’re determined to do it yourself and are wondering how to get grey hair at home – check out our feature on how to dye your hair blonde.

OUT: Man Buns

We’ll have the Shoreditch warriors in arms here, but the man bun has been exponentially dropping in popularity over the past few months. Aside from being way too overdone, it was rumoured that the craze could also lead to early hair loss and bald patches if the bun is scraped back too tight – not ideal. If this is a style you’re still into, we can’t argue. We would, however, suggest you go for a full head man bun instead of the shaved side or back look.

Biggest Men’s Hair Trends for 2017

  • The quiff is in. Use a wax or pomade to slick back your hair and brush it back with a comb. Blow dry it backwards for extra volume.
  • The middle parting sees the ultimate 90’s style coming back, and we love it. The middle parting is a classic and easy style to create and uphold. This is one of the best men’s hairstyle trends.
  • The side parting is not too dissimilar to the middle parting, however, you part your hair to the side – well I never.
  • Go grey. This grey hair trend has proved to be popular this year. Just be sure it’s what you want before attacking your head with bleach.
