This year has been pretty ridiculous for Sam Feldt. Since releasing his Been A While EP earlier in the year he went on to tour the globe and play some of its biggest festivals, but we want to know how it began. Making the decision to become a music producer takes dedication and we caught up with Sam to find out what made him do it. This is Sam Feldt’s moment.

Creating music’s always been a part of my life. I started to play the keyboard when I was eight years old, I’d create small melodies and mess around on it after school. When I was 10, I had a drive-in show where my dad would drive me to play kids’ birthday parties in our hometown and that’s where I developed my skill of choosing music to play for these parties and it peaked my interest in music even more. But the moment I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to creating music was when I was on holiday in Portugal at 17. I was in a club and saw Dutch DJ Billy The Kit behind the decks and his set was full of energy! He had the crowd moving with the tracks he was spinning and I was intrigued to how he made his music – from that point it was clear to me that creating music and DJing is what I want to do and hopefully make a lifelong career from it. I wanted to evoke the feeling that Billy The Kit gave me, but with my own productions and to my own crowd.

I started off my DJing career with the alias Dr. Papasov and did a lot of small shows in my hometown, I worked really hard to improve my skills behind the decks, with the aim to sign to a label but unfortunately, Dr. Papasov’s style didn’t work out, so I went back to the drawing board and later, Sam Feldt was born! I changed my style of music, really focused on my production and eventually I was signed to Spinnin’ Records in 2014.
