Chase & Status are Saul Milton and Will Kennard, they’re also household name electronic music producers and that doesn’t happen every day! Their impact since their breakthrough in 2008 has been massive, but where did it all begin? We wanted to see if they could think back to a time when they realised that this was the life for them, and think back they did. They take us on a trip to an 11 year old’s birthday party for a moment that eventually gave us the artists we know today.
If you haven’t heard their new single with Tom Grennan yet check the video below, you can buy it here. In the meantime, this is their moment.
Chase & Status
The moment is etched in my mind. It was at a friend’s birthday party. For a present his mum had given him a Casio keyboard with sounds in it. When I saw it in action I froze… I was completely transfixed! It could play a selection of drum grooves like rumba or salsa and then you could add different sounds over it, all on this amazing machine. They literally couldn’t get me off it. At the time I didn’t realise what an effect it had on me but in hindsight the fact that I was so fascinated with this electronic music making machine at such a young age must have meant something. Eventually my mum had to come round to tell me we had to leave. I think I cried.
