They’re some of the biggest names in Drum & Bass. Whether it’s running their hugely influential record label or touring the world, there’s no doubt that these 3 Producers have been killing it for some time! Having just released the Technique Recordings Summer 2016 compilation, we thought it was an ideal time to catch up with Drumsound & Bassline Smith.

If you’re a Drum & Bass fan there’s no doubt you’ll know Drumsound & Basssline Smith. They’ve also has had crossover hits with ‘What Can You Do for Me’, ‘Close’ and ‘Through The Night’. For those not familiar, the group consist of Andy Wright and Ben Wiggett as Drumsound and Simon ‘Bassline’ Smith, together they cast a huge shadow over DnB.

It’s hard to see how these lads have a moment spare between touring the world as DJs, regularly producing/remixing and running one of the biggest DnB labels out there, Technique Recordings. We’ve been all over their latest compilation but the labels’s been throwing out bangers for over 15 years. It all began in the late 90s when they met on the Derby rave scene and it’s grown ever since.

Revered by tastemakers like Zane Lowe and BBC R1’s Annie Mac, they’ve sky rocketed in recent years to become some of the most well respected DnB artists out there. We asked them to give us a better idea of their life on the road and it’s clear they’ve not let the success go to their heads and have two feet firmly placed on the ground.

What can be found in your DJ bag?

Headphones / USB Sticks / Ear Plugs.

What music are you listening to whilst you’re travelling usually?

We usually make a different playlist of music that ‘makes me feel good’ for each tour! The last Spring tour was an ‘influences Playlist’ which had artists like Dexter Wansel, Donald Byrd, Odyssey, Starve, Gino Socio, Nightwriters & Loads more.

Best in-flight snack when flying?

Has to be a protein Shake.

Recent film or series you’ve been watching on the road?

It’s got to be Games Of Thrones and Narcos.

Any touring nightmares you’ve had?

Yes well, I dropped my iPhone at the airport and smashed the glass, it couldn’t be repaired so I had to buy a new one. Luckily a DJ friend works at the Apple store so I got a good deal. Got home a week later, dropped my phone & smashed the glass – majorly pissed!

What’s the best thing about touring and playing regular shows?

You get to play sets in a different club to a different audience every night and play so much music. It’s great because you can really dig deep into your selection!

And the worst?

Without a doubt it’s the sleep deprivation.

First thing you do when you get back?

Love my peeps!

What’s a Typical Day like for You When You’re Touring?

Get up, go to the gym & work out. Then grab some breakfast, head to the airport and get on a plane. Once we land, go to Hotel, eat then go play music and repeat! Hehe!
