A Guided Tour of Turin with Yaya

We travel to Turin to take a guided tour of the city with DJ and producer, Yaya.

Turin isn’t one of those traditionally quiet Italian cities, as there is a ‘work hard on weekdays, party hard on the weekends’ type of feeling to the city. As a tourist though, Turin has a great amount of culture, as it’s well known for its renaissance, baroque, rococo, neo-classical, and art nouveau architecture. Nightlife is very good too, so we caught up with Turin local and international house DJ and producer, Yaya, to find out more about the city.

With his passion being in music, Yaya broke onto the club scene at a really young age. Yaya began playing at clubs and parties in the flourished techno-house scene of Turin. Yaya spent hours mixing synths of his hybrid sound, storing up a vast library of sounds.

Since then, he has played at some of the biggest clubs on the continent, including Fabric and Watergate. He is a familiar and popular face in Ibiza too, as he features at the opening and closing parties at Space. Yaya is due to drop his new EP titled Apocalypto soon on AdMaiore records, so we thought we would catch up with him and take a guided tour of Turin.

Where’s the best place for a first date?

Simini, which is located in Corso Racconigi 30. In my opinion it is one of the best places to eat fresh fish, food is top quality and the owner is lovely. Great place if you want to surprise your date.

Where’s your preferred place to chill and clear your head?

Parco Europa is one of the most relaxing parks in town. As well as being a very romantic spot, it has an amazing panoramic view of the city. Every time I’m here there is always a great energy that surrounds me.

Where serves the best breakfast?

Caffè Fiorio in the heart of Turin, located at Via Po 8. It’s super stylish and one of the oldest bars in the city. Make sure you try their ice cream that they’re known for, you’ll die for it!

Where’s your favourite place to have a quiet drink?

My favourite place for having a cocktail is without doubt Tamango. My parents are the owners. They first opened 38 years ago, and it’s famous for serving strange and mysterious cocktails.

Where’s your favourite place to have a messier night?

Savana Potente at Chalet is certainly the best party in town!

Savana Potente is a synonym of family. My Family. We are in our 10th year now, so know each other very well, it feels like my home. It is decorated like Luna Park with shows, candy floss, trapeze, elaborate dancers and last but not least, the finest music of the highest sound quality! You MUST try it out!

How would you describe your city’s style?

A workers underground city. Basically most of the people in Turin work during the week, and live for their weekends where they celebrate, listen to quality music and dance. On top of that I’ve noticed that they are more open minded, compared to other cities in Italy. Every time that I play here, my sets are so free. I try new tracks, new sounds and always receive honest feedback from the crowd. This makes me feel so content and thankful!
