Versatile Staples The Men’s Parka

Versatiles Parka

The parka is practical and stylish, it keeps you warm whilst still looking good and this style guide shows you how to wear it.

Check out the rest of the How To Wear it guides here.

The Parka has been around for decades, with origins tracing back to the Inuits in the 1920’s. However, the modern parka that we know and love today is one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe arsenal. Teamed with a casual outfit or thrown over the top of your suit for the morning commute, your parka jacket will see you through all manner of situations with style and warmth.

Casual Day Out

As we all know, and can feel, the weather is getting colder by the day, so you’re going to want a proper coat to tackle the freezing morning and battle the winds that like to plague us so much. Well, look no further, a parka is all that you’ll need to take on the winter ahead.

This parka from Carhartt is a great option for a casual day out. Its thick padding, short length and faux fur hood make it the perfect accompaniment for those blustery days. Sometimes your coat just isn’t enough to keep you warm, so you’re going to want to be sufficiently insulated underneath as well.

Keep the outfit underneath fairly neutral, don’t stray away from the colour pallet that your coat has set. A jumper in a grey or black would be spot on with this. Throw on a pair of black slim jeans and a pair of practical wintery boots, such as these Timberlands and you’ll be ready to go.

The Morning Commute

For those of us who don’t have the luxury of a car, the tube or the bus is our way into work. As the days get colder and we’re starting to see our breath in the morning freeze, it’s time to get a coat that will keep the cold at bay.

Whether the walk to the tube or bus is long or short, you’re going to want something to keep you warm. This parka from The North Face is a great option, whether you’re throwing it over a suit or lucky enough to have a casual work attire, it’s sure to keep you perfectly snug.

Because this parka is so thick and insulated, your outfit underneath wants to be fairly simple, because we all know how hot the daily commute can get. A simple white button down shirt, a pair of black trousers and top it all off with a pair of brogues, perfect for the office. This pair from Base London are ideal as their raised sole make them perfect for the colder months.

Probably not the first thought when you think of a parka but hear me out. This season layering has never been more on trend, especially with such a versatile piece like the parka. But I know what you’re thinking, the parka is far too thick to even think about adding an extra layer underneath, but you’ll be wrong.

Try and wear a denim jacket underneath your parka, this adds a touch of detail and warmth and is right on trend for this season. Keep the rest of your look simple, as the main details to your look are the jackets, a simple grey tee, black jeans and throw on a pair of brogue boots.

This layered look is perfect for those colder days, as if you get too warm walking around, you can easily whip off your parka and still have a stylish yet warm look underneath.
