The Idle Man Talks Style With Ryan Chun

The fashion community often overlooks the fact that behind every famous blogging persona are the creators of the images that we so seamlessly scroll through via social media. A visual genius, Chicago-based content creator Ryan Chun has an extensively impressive list of companies he has created video and/or photo content for. Most recently, he has produced content for Urban Outfitters, Beats by Dre and Complex Magazine to name a few, with his range of work spanning past the fashion industry. With such a creative vision, we caught up with Ryan to discuss his style and what he typically wears on a shoot.

I could never live without my…

Camera. I never leave the house without my Sony A7s with my Zeiss 55mm attached.

You can’t go wrong with wearing…

Black.

The biggest fashion faux-pas men make…

It’s a tie between wearing boot cut jeans and wearing t-shirts under blazers.

My thoughts of jewellery on men…

Go for it, I’m a big fan of rings.

My tips on shopping on a budget…

Outlet stores are the move, keep an eye on Ebay deals if you’re persistent.

The 5 basic items every man should have in his wardrobe are…

1. A simple silver tie clip. Nothing over the top.

2. A good leather biker jacket

3. A solid pair of boots -my current favourite is the Snare boots from AllSaints.

4. A pair of tapered sweatpants – so that you can trick fancy venues into thinking you’re dressed appropriately for their standards.

5. A pocket comb.

My style inspiration comes from…

I don’t really have any one in particular. Usually I just keep an eye out for what I see on my Instagram feed, I follow a lot of streetwear photographers. I’m a big fan of the @teamcozy community, in particular (and anything Regan Matthews is behind, to be honest).

The Fashion List

Jeans: Washed black print cigarette jeans from AllSaints is hands down my favourite. They break in nicely and have what is, in my opinion, the perfect cut.

Trainers: Adidas ZX 8000 Boost. I walk up a lot of fire escapes and climb a lot of fences when I’m out taking photos – you have to be comfortable when you’re out shooting all day and these are the most comfortable trainers I’ve worn to date.

Shoes: Cole Haan Lunar Grand Wingtips

Suit: Topman’s Grey Puppytooth Skinny Fit Suits are cheap and a good fit.

Bag: As a photographer, the all black Chrome Niko backpack @trashand and @vanstyles designed is almost the only one I use. There’s enough space for my camera and lenses, MacBook, daily essentials in a sleek black weather-resistant shell.

Underwear: Calvin Klein

Cologne: Gentleman Only by Givenchy

Watch: “Classic Watch” in shift chestnut by I Love Ugly
