While we’re huge advocates of raw denim jeans here at THE IDLE MAN, wearing a pair during the height of summer will undoubtedly result in a severe case of sweaty legs. And nobody wants that, do they?
Naturally, the obvious option to counteract this happening is to reach for the nearest pair of shorts, but at the same time it might not always be suitable for the occasion in hand, especially if your work’s dress code prohibits them or you’re heading somewhere you should probably dress on the smarter side of the sartorial spectrum.
Fortunately, however, the menswear gatekeepers out there have brought back faded denim in a big way recently, thus providing us with plenty of warm-weather alternatives to the usual go-to denim. And, no, we’re not talking dodgy acid washes akin to 80s heavy metallers, but more light blue iterations that are worthy of a place in your wardrobe.
Here’s four stand-out pairs currently gracing our shelves here at THE IDLE MAN.
Cheap Monday Dropped Rise Above Jeans
The slim fit and subtle light blue wash of these Cheap Monday Dropped Rise Above Jeans make them an affordable and versatile must-have for the summer months. We’ll either be wearing ours rolled up to the ankle with a pair of monochrome runners or some navy boat shoes and a white Oxford shirt.
Only & Sons Avi Skinny Jeans
The heavy distressing on these Only & Sons Avi jeans makes them less versatile than the last pair we featured, however they’ll still provide a solid foundation for a number of casual ensembles. Keep things simple by wearing them with a crisp, white T-shirt and some Converse Chuck Taylors.
Edwin ED80 Sonic Light Wash Jeans
Edwin excel when it comes to quality, raw denim, but they’re also pretty handy with faded, distressed styles, too. Case in point being these sand blasted ED80 Sonic Light Wash jeans, which provide a refreshing alternative to the usual tones of blue we’re used to seeing on faded denim. Wear them as we’ve shown here with a tan leather Derby for a quick and simple, smart casual look.
Nudie Steady Eddy Jeans
Last but by no means least, we’ve chosen a more generously fitting option from Nudie with their increasingly popular Steady Eddie style. These are perfect if you’re looking to make a departure from the super skinny styles we’ve seen so much of, plus they’re not heavily faded or distressed so they retain that smarter element. We’ll be wearing ours rolled up to ankle with a pair of no-nonsense white plimsolls.
