Like all good things, a little bit of evolution is inevitable. In 2011 Rudy Lauer started an Instagram page to present and explore the thing he loved, fashion. It started out modestly but its following grew massively due to the professional and informative vibe of the page. Soon after Rudy started a blog, naming it The Parisian Hipster. This too gained a huge amount of followers, and as Rudy’s influence grew so did his style. Soon the Parisian Hipster evolved into the Parisian Man, and, like the name suggests, this stylish fashion and lifestyle site is the place for men, not boys.

What 3 projects that you have been involved in are you most proud of?

The one I am really most proud of is the launch of the new version of my blog in October. Through my blog I have had the opportunity to collaborate with L’Oréal Paris to find the new face on Instagram for their new L’Oréal Paris Men Expert advertising campaign, took part in the launch of the Folie Douce party event in Cannes (Summer 2015) at the Majestic Beach, and in a short video by Barbour for the launch of their new summer collection.

What has blogging taught you about fashion – how has your career influenced your style?

I was already a huge fan of men’s fashion before starting my blog in 2011 but I must admit that the quantity of new the collections, designers and accessories for men have totally exploded during these past few years. The menswear market is so rich, creative and exciting at the moment and consequently it influences my style every single day. I always try to stay coherent and homogenous in my personal outfits though, even if I love to add a bit of originality to my style.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is pretty classical, colourful sometimes, and always with a twist thanks to nice details. I would define my style as a kind of neo-preppy. Fashion in the streets and on blogs bring me new inspiration regarding my own style, but what I love to do is mix different kind of styles, always staying dapper.

What is your go to outfit?

A white oxford shirt with blue stripes, a grey cardigan or a chevron knitted jumper, a pair of stretch slim jeans and a pair of white sneakers. Quite basic as an outfit but easy to wear in all circumstances (official meetings or laid back day). You can’t fail wearing basic clothes, but always find beautiful details and choose the right fitting of course!

Where do you get style inspiration from?

Most of my inspiration comes from the street. I love watching guys, taking some ideas for my own outfits and finding the “je ne sais quoi” that makes you beautiful, confident and a bit different. Then looking at blogs on the Internet is definitely the best source for inspiration. Nothing existed 10 years ago, but now the quantity of men’s fashion blogs is completely amazing!

What advice would you have to someone who is having difficulty developing their own style?

First of all, please wear clothes that really fit you. I see so many men with beautiful clothes but they are too often the wrong size. Then do not hesitate to look at all the look books you can find on official brands website.

It will help you to define you own style. It’s often a good start to know the outfit that suits you the best. Use basic colours at the beginning like grey, blue, white or black then when you are confident enough with fashion, just play with patterns, wear colours and use stunning accessories. The most important thing is to feel confident in the clothes you’re wearing and find your own style. Every single man has his own style! It takes time to find it but at the end of the day what a great joy!

What are your fashion dos and don’ts?

My dos:

Take time to find the size and the fitting for your trousers and your tops that suit you the best!

Wear a white oxford shirt or a light color shirt as often as possible.

My don’ts:

Wear pants without a belt.

Don’t mix too much colour. Three maximum!
