Getting your outfit right for your weekend soirées can often be a frustrating procedure. You want to stand out from the crowd but you’re not quite confident enough to follow other people’s ‘peacocking’ techniques of loud shirts, big hats or pretentious accessories. Finding individuality doesn’t have to be a complex process, though, and it’s often the smallest details that bring an alternative look and save you from appearing like you’re trying too hard.
The key is to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. For some guys, making statements works, it feels them with confidence and it attracts the sort of comments they’re fishing for. But, if you’re like us, that really isn’t your thing and you’re looking for subtler ways of attracting that person you’ve had in your sights for months now.
To start, get your footwear right. Keep things simple, clean and classic. In the summer months, you can’t go wrong with a pair of plain white treads. We’d suggest sticking to leather, though, if your night takes a messy turn you don’t want your favourite canvas trainers ruined on your drunkard stumble home.
You don’t need to give too much thought to your legwear, either. Go for any darker denim – black or indigo never fail – to contrast your footwear and help them stand out a little more. If you’re the sort of person that likes to invest in your denim, head for Nudie, Edwin or Carhartt. Working on a budget? Then you can’t go wrong with The Idle Man, Cheap Monday or Religion. Opt for turn ups or pin rolls and go sockless if the weather’s good to further customise your look.
Now it’s time to customise and add those finer details we mentioned earlier. The longline look is possibly the simplest and quickest way to add an alternative feel to your style, so get yourself a plain white longline Tee or vest. By opting for white, you’re matching your footwear and really making them stand out.
Next add your accessories. Even with nearly every person in the western world owning a smartphone, we always suggest wearing a watch. It just adds a more considered feel to your outfit. Then, if you’ve been blessed with a bit of sunshine, throw on your favourite shades and you’re nearly done.
When you’re finishing your look and adding to your outerwear, we always suggest sticking to the staples. Every guy needs a decent bomber in his wardrobe, not only will it finish off this look perfectly, it will also slot into any outfit you need it to, bringing much needed versatility to your wardrobe.
So, keep things simple and you can’t fail. This will look great in any situation whether it’s your local, a small-town club or at the much bigger venues. Don’t add too many accessories and only go for one or two bits of trend-lead pieces to achieve an alternative, considered and mature look.
