You’ve made it through what seems like the longest month of the year, so well done! We may be running low on funds and ready to break dry January as soon as Feb hits, but as the month comes to an end what did it bring for us in the world of fashion? We’ve pulled together some of the best dressed men of 2018 so far.
January was a big and busy month for men’s fashion as we kicked off the year with a whole host of Fashion Weeks. London, Paris and Milan set us up with the trends we need for the year, with velvet pieces in both Oliver Spencer and Band of Outsiders’ collections, utility styled trousers inspired by everyday work wear also featuring on the runway, as well as enough layers to keep you cosy throughout the brisk month of January. But that’s not all we saw, the Grammy’s rolled onto our screens and the guys were out in full force strutting their stuff on the red carpet, and between all of these going on’s there were premieres and of course, the NTA’s. So who’s made the cut into our compressed list of the best dressed men of the year so far?
Jaden, the 19 year old that pushes fashion boundaries, breaks the rules and always has an outfit that shows us exactly who he is has done it again. Forgetting about the dress code everyone so willingly follows and stepping onto the red carpet in trainers, a MSFTSRep top and G-Star pants has showed us that he’s instantly and effortlessly cool when it comes to dressing. So for those of you that aren’t big on smart attire, take a page out of Jaden’s book.
It may be the new year, and he may have the ‘new year new me’ mentality like the rest of us, but from a style point of view we really hope he doesn’t. Dave Franco has kept his classic style and again made it as one of our favourites. Attending the Valentino Menswear Fall/Winter 2018 show during Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, the actor has pulled off the suit and jumper combination with ease and we’re big fans.
David & Brooklyn Beckham
These two come as a pair. They may not be on the same double act level as Ant and Dec but as father and son, they’ve got the duo thing locked down. Attending the Louis Vuitton Menswear Fall/Winter 2018 show during Paris Fashion Week, the Beckham guys were photographed looking as stylish as ever in (nearly) matching overcoats. Making it a family affair with Victoria joining in on the action, this family are definitely a style focus to concentrate on.
He may not have had the best start to the year. Being kicked out a NYC bar after a heated row over a pool table isn’t the best start but luckily he’s turned it around. Attending, and presenting and award at The Golden Globes a couple of days after the bar night fiasco had the Game of Thrones star back to his polished, dapper, leading man self. Dressed head to toe black in a classic tuxedo, Kit paired wore a suede pair of shoes and a bow tie to finish off the look.
This may be another smart bow tie look but this time it was worn to The Grammys. John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, hit the red carpet in outfits that you could see shining a mile off. Alongside Chrissy’s silver dress, John Legend’s suit was as patent as ever and it worked. The double breasted jacket paired with some toned down black trousers made sure the sheen wasn’t too in your face. A bow tie, white shirt and a pair of simple boots brought the look together as a whole.
Supporting his son walking the catwalk for Dolce & Gabbana’s Milan show, James Marsden watched on like a proud father. Looking just as stylish as his model son, Marsden’s fashion show attire was kept fairly simple. Following some key trends of the year, James brought together the trousers and trainer look which has been on the rise for quite some time now. The scarf, used for fashion purposes only, completed this stylish ensemble. As far as dad style goes, this one’s a good one.
This year it seems to be all about smart trousers and overcoats, and Big Sean walked The Grammys red carpet in just that. Keeping his colour palette simple, it was each individual piece that spoke for itself. One part that we’re massive fans of though is the suede overcoat. If you’re going to be boujee then why not do it on the red carpet? Mixing plush fabrics with chunky leather shoes and a suit is the perfect example of how to contrast textures perfectly.
Going back to one of the first major highlights of January 2018, London Fashion Week Men’s. If you can remember that far back then you’ll know that all the street style you saw around London from the 6th to 8th was impeccably stylish. A lot mixed high street with designer and sports wear with tailored elements. With so many outfits to choose from, one of our favourites has to be Richard Biedul. Head to toe brown somehow works, making us big fans of this 70s inspired look that he so effortlessly pulls off.
Michael B. Jordan
The game changer that’s entering the Marvel world, Black Panther, had it’s premiere in Los Angeles this month and every look was bold, bright and full of vivid colour. But the one that we like the most is Michael B. Jordan’s simpler choice. Unlike most of his co stars and the other fans that hit the carpet, Michael only needed to use subtle design elements to make his look stand out. His Calvin Klein suit and Christian Louboutin shoes were a match made in heaven, and with the embroidered collar on his shirt, the outfit was tied together perfectly.
Zayn’s always been one to look good when it comes to suits so when he arrived at the Grammys in an embroidered blush Richard James suit he was definitely ready for all the photographers. Pairing Ralph Lauren leather loafers with the chic mauve suit helped him keep things subtle, even when wearing pink. The embroidered white rose on the lapel adds a little extra detail which is something Zyan’s always been good at.
On That Note
So that rounds up January. It may have been a quiet month for us but in the celebrity world, life never seems to slow down, especially during awards season. All the Fashion Weeks, the Golden Globes, the Grammys and of course the movie premieres that went on had the red carpet constantly busy. Filled with tailored trousers, overcoats, and plenty of layers, this year seems to have started in all the right ways. So if we do as they saying states, start as you mean to go on, this year will be a good one.
