History of Havaianas

Beginning in 1962 in the heart of Brazil, Havaianas created their first flip flops based on the traditional Japanese sandal called the Zori. Known for their practicality and longevity, Havaianas shoes became popular with Brazilian workmen, and by 1966 they had gained such high esteem that they were able to patent the unique shape of their flip flops while increasing their production outtake. By the 1970s Havaianas had moved on from their classic navy and white colouring and were available in various colour combinations. They soon became a staple part of Brazilian culture, and were listed by the Government as being as as fundamental as rice and beans. Now Havaianas are available in over 60 countries, with the comfortable flats worn by everyone from workers to celebs, and produced in a variation of colours and sizes.
