The History of Dickies

1918 - 1950

Back in 1922 when C. Don Williamson started a small family company with his father and cousin we doubt they could have imagined just how influential what they were creating would be. First coming together in 1918, the family founded the U.S. Overall Company, this would go on to become the Dickies only a few years later.

in 1922, C. Don Williamson joined with his father and cousin to buy 100% of the overall company on a one-third-each basis and renamed it Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company. Williamson-Dickie Mfg. went from a small manufacturer of bib overalls to become the largest manufacturer of work clothes in the world.

1950 - 1990

Late 1950’s, after a successful war service, Dickies expanded to new markets - predominantly in Europe and the Middle East, where Texan oilmen introduced Dickies workwear to Middle Eastern oil fields. The integration with labour markets internationally proved to be a key move in the history of the brand, from which they experiences exponential growth.

In 1989, a UK branch of Dickies was created in Somerset - bringing tough, durable and affordable workwear to British soil. With this serving as a British, and European, hub - they continued to develop the range of products available and promoting nationally which led it to it's current status as the leading workwear manufacturer in the UK.
