How to Wear the Gloverall Duffle Coat
Equally great with some tailoring and more casual outfits alike, these men's duffle coats are a guarantee of versatility and durability. No matter how classic these coats are, they can be easily paired up with a shirt and jeans for a casual outfit. However, there's nothing better than an iconic coat and slim chinos combination. For a smarter feel, complete the look with a pair of formal shoes or ankle boots. But you can always choose to dress the look down with a pair of trainers.
Even though duffle coats technically find their origin in the Belgian town of Duffle, it's thanks to the British Navy that now we use this word to describe this specific type of coat. With the end of WWII, Harold and Freda, owners of H&F Morris, managed to get their hands on a huge quantity of military duffle coats that remained from the war. They decided to sell them to camping and leisure stores and it was an extremely successful move. Spotting this demand in the clothing market for these thick coats, they decided to set up their own brand, Gloverall.
Since its establishment in 1954, Gloverall has become the go-to brand for duffle coats. It's not surprising that after conquering the UK with their range of casual outerwear, they quickly expanded their business overseas with the U.S and Canada as some of their biggest international customers. By the 1970's and 1980's they broke through the Asian market with Japan as their largest consumer.
With these incredibly successful results, the brand gained the attention of the royal family. For example, they were commissioned to supply clothing for the British Transglobe Expedition with which the Prince of Wales was travelling. Furthermore, Princess Anne paid a visit to the Gloverall factory in Northamptonshire whilst serving as President of the British Knitting and Clothing Export Council. With such an impressive history and multiple awards under this label's belt, we can confidently say that you're in safe hands.
