Unquestionably, the weather isn't something you can ever rely on in regards to your outfit, well, at least here in London. Especially in Spring, where one day can be beautifully bright and comfortably warm, then the following can be miserable, grey and very wet, making your outerwear choice a mind boggling decision. Fear not, though, we've picked out six different jackets to solve your wardrobe conundrum.
The Denim Jacket
A staple piece for any man's wardrobe, this jacket is a style essential classic. Rain or shine, layer up underneath a denim jacket for the colder days, or wear it over a T-shirt for the better days. Double denim crossing your mind? Don't worry it can be done.
How to style
You don't have to over complicate things when it comes to denim. Keep things minimal and simple with a denim jacket over a plain white T-shirt, a pair of black jeans and some clean white trainers. Sunny outside? Don't forget the shades.
Another wardrobe essential, the mac is a perfect wet or warm weather jacket. With several variations of the jacket being smart, hooded and rain, the mac is the perfect outer layer for any outfit. You can wear a smart mac over a casual shirt, paired with trousers or chinos and some shoes, or rock a hooded or rain mac over a T-shirt and jeans, and finish off with a fresh pair of kicks. Cold out? Layer a mac over a hoodie. Whatever your style, the mac is an essential piece you should have.
How To Style
Go smart casual with a stylish black mac. Pair it with a pair of blue or indigo jeans, skinny or wide leg, depending on your preference, then finish with a pair of suede desert boots or shoes. Cold out? Layer a black denim jacket or over-shirt underneath the mac for warmth.
The Suede Jacket
Something we can't commend enough here at Idle HQ, the suede jacket is this season's staple without a doubt. In a range of 1970's shades of brown and caramel, sporting a thin and feathery texture, this jacket is a perfect fit for any outfit. Despite its pretty lightweight design, the leather shell will work perfectly in cold and warmer temperatures.
How To Style
A brown or caramel suede jacket will perfectly match with a classic white oxford shirt. Pair them with some black or dark denim jeans, and finish with the footwear of your choice. White trainers will match perfectly with this outfit, but if you're looking to go a little smarter, add a pair of brogues or colour matching suede shoes.
The Coach Jacket
The all-American coach jacket has been the comeback garment of 2016. A smarter, refined version, but still featuring the original press-stud fastening, pointed collar and drawstring hem, the coach jacket is an incredibly cool piece that shines with style. I know I want one.
How To Style
The black coach jacket can be styled in so many ways, so feel free to play around with outfit ideas. Our favourite combination is a pair of chinos and some old school kicks such as Converse. Of course, any simple trainer will work perfectly with this outfit. Feeling the chill? Layer up a black or navy casual shirt underneath the jacket.
The Bomber Jacket
Possibly one of the most popular jackets among men and women alike this year, the bomber jacket is a definite staple piece that everyone, and I do mean everyone, should have in their wardrobe. Originating from back in the day when pilots needed to keep warm, the bomber jacket is an essential garment for those warm days and chilly nights. Ranging in colours of khaki, navy and black, to materials of nylon, suede and leather, the bomber is a versatile must have.
How To Style
Another extremely versatile jacket, layer a black bomber over a white or graphic tee, add a pair black joggers and complete the fit with some awesome trainers. You can layer a long line t-shirt too, even adding a hoodie for some warmth. Regardless of how you style this jacket, I'm pretty sure it'll look spot on.
The Technical Jacket
It's name comes from the material and technology used in the fabrics, the technical jacket is the go-to outerwear piece for those wet and windy days. From brands such as The North Face, HUF and Hunter, the technical jacket is the perfect companion for those adventurous days out and festival weekends away. Incorporating hoods and waterproof fabrics into stylish garments, the technical jacket is a cross between a suit of armour and a second skin.
How To Style
A street style jacket that can be used with more casual fits, the technical jacket can be used over t-shirts, hoodies, jumpers and even shirts. We've paired this blue technical jacket by The North Face with some relaxed tapered denim jeans and a long sleeve black t-shirt, perfect for those warmer Spring days. For the damp and dark days, throw on a hoodie or jumper to keep warm and comfortable.
So there you have it. The Idle Man's definitive guide on how to dress when the weather is decidedly. From denim fits to technical bits, you shouldn't have a problem on choosing your Spring outerwear.
