Hi Archie, thanks for sitting down with The Idle Man.

No problem, thanks for having me!

So a bit about your music education. What were your main musical influences when growing up in Wales?

A lot of my musical experiences back then were electronic. When I was younger my mother used to take me to raves, festivals and free parties, so I heard a lot of it from an early age – but it was more hardcore, acid and trance back then.

How did this translate into techno later on?

I was really into skating as a teenager and became completely obsessed with The Prodigy and ‘electronica’ so I think it was probably a natural progression. When I started going clubbing in London at 18 I was going to drum and bass raves, but a chance Saturday night at fabric changed my taste forever.

How did your regular collaboration with FUSE London come about?

I was a regular at 93 Feet East, but not being from London I didn’t really know anyone at the party apart from my crew. Gradually we started meeting people and then one day, completely by chance, Luke Miskelly played one of my tracks. I was completely overwhelmed, as I was just making stuff in my bedroom at the time, so it was a huge honour to hear it at my favourite party! I went and introduced myself and slowly met more of the guys over time, and about 3 years later I got a call from Tony asking if I’d like to play. The rest is history…

How do you balance being a DJ, label owner and producer?

With great difficulty! The DJing part is great, but the travel plays havoc with the rest of it. I’m lucky to have a good friend Aston Kirby helping me out running the label and I write music as and when I can at the moment. I have been living and producing at home outside of London, so that makes it even harder to find studio time, but I am moving back into the city soon so I am hoping that will change and I will be more productive again.

What can we expect from your summer performance at Sonus festival?

I am hoping I get a similar set time – I absolutely love playing the sunrise. It’s such an amazing experience seeing and guiding the change of vibe from the darker night mood to seeing the big smiles and positive energy when the sun comes up!
