Grey is a classic colour that has been around for centuries. Businessmen and street style fanatics have been sporting this colour in style for longer than you or I can remember. The reason why so many people are fans of wearing this colour is because of its versatility and ease of wear.
This season grey is one of the biggest trends going, with designers showcasing whole tonal grey looks on the catwalk and making them look oh so desirable. But, just because they're on the catwalk doesn't mean you can't pull of grey, it will work for you perfectly this season, all you need is a few little tips to help you along the way.
For The Office
Grey is a very popular colour for many men to wear to the office. It's versatility from casual to formal is enviable as you can easily downplay a grey office look. The go to for the office would be a suit, and you wouldn't be wrong, but you can also wear different grey pieces to pull off this colour with ease.
For you suit, try this number from The Idle Man, perfect for the office and transitioning for a smart dinner afterwards. The darker colour and slim fit make it a cracking suit to have in your wardrobe arsenal as it will suit almost everybody. Teamed with a black roll neck jumper or classic white button down shirt underneath for a bang on trend look.
If you don't want to wear a full grey suit then you can always try wearing a grey jumper to the office. Worn on its own or thrown over a white button down shirt, you can easily pull off a grey jumper this season. This number from Lyle & Scott is spot on, a simple design and classic fit, it will easily work over the top of a white button down shirt.
For something less rigid and formal try this waffle knit jumper from yours truly, The Idle Man. A thicker knit and different shape it will work perfectly with a pair of classic black trousers and formal shoes for the office.
On The Street
Grey works perfectly in a more casual setting as well. Adding a pair of grey jeans or a grey sweatshirt will heighten your look by keeping it quite simple, yet having the full detail of the colour itself. Try wearing a pair of grey jeans, such as this pair from Nudie for a more alternative look this season. Teamed with a black tee and trainers for a bang on trend and casual look this season.
If you want to go all out casual then why not try wearing a a pair of grey joggers with a grey hoodie or sweatshirt. This may seem like a lot of grey, but for some reason, when it's in a casual setting for comfortable clothes, it works really well. Throw on a pair of white trainers or plimsolls for a comfortable and casual look this season.
Somewhere In The Middle
One of the biggest trends this season is mixing formal and casual wear together. This has to be one of my favourite trends this season as you can play around with different pieces and textures to create a cracking look.
Try wearing a lighter grey suit jacket and trousers with a simple white tee underneath. This is a nod to the 80's as this was a classic look on Hawaii 5.0, but I doubt many of you want to re-create those looks, we don't have any light pink suits to start with. This look however will work as a smart-casual look for a relaxed day at the office or even a day out.
Throw on a pair or white trainers for good measure - these Converse are spot on as their comfort and practicality make them one versatile and on trend piece to have in you footwear arsenal.
Go For Tonal
Another big trend this season is going for full tonal looks and there's no better colour to do this with than grey. Big designers such as Bottega Veneta showcased full tonal looks on their catwalk which made for a cracking look this season, the socks and sandals however, probably not a good idea.
Try wearing a pair of grey wide legged trousers, such as this pair from Dickies, (tackling two trends in one look) with a simple grey tee. this creates a smart and casual look whilst combining two of this season's biggest trends. Teamed with a pair of grey high top trainers for a cracking look.
And On That Note
Grey isn't a colour to be feared, it's a colour to be embraced. Don't not wear it because you think it's a boring colour, quite the opposite in fact, you can liven it up no end with just a few simple tips and tricks. Go for a formal look with a darker grey suit - keep it casual with a pair of grey skinny jeans for a more alternative look, or go for something a little inbetween for a bang on trend look this season. Either way, you'll be looking stylish in grey this season without fail.
