Born in Northampton, Lockett first found himself breaking through into the spotlight back in 2016 when he was showcased on BBC Introducing with his debut EP ‘Burn It Down’. The EP worked its way up and gained 1.6 million streams on Spotify. With a similar sound to Bon Iver, London Grammar and Cinematic Orchestra, Lockett manages to create bittersweet sounds which touches on raw emotions on each track. Finding his feet in one of the toughest industries, Lockett is now signed with Parlophone.
His recent single dropped a few weeks ago and has already shined a light once again on Lockett's talent. ‘Every Time You’re High’ is the powerful single which he co-wrote with Jackson Dimiglio-Wood and Sam McCarthy. Alongside the track, Lockett created a music video with the help from Sye Allen, in which the strong message behind the lyrics is portrayed. The video unpicks the truth about the constant nightmare based around the battle of addiction – which is something that has been a struggle in Lockett’s own life.
Speaking about the vulnerability of the song Lockett say’s, “‘Every Time You're High' is about the constant nightmare of battling addiction; how it can bulldoze relationships around you. I've wanted to write this song for a long time. I don't think I've ever been this honest lyrically before.” The video itself follows the story of a young couple in a rundown coastal town; which starts positive however descends into a roller-coaster of emotions, anger and upset, and how it has affected Lockett. It’s an interesting narrative on the take of emotional abuse, and all those that it affects.
The one-to-watch-singer started his tour at the end of March, Lockett is travelling to 9 countries / 16 cities on his current tour, which will include his fifth London headline show and biggest to date at Shepherds Bush Empire on April 25th. Check out his website here for more tour date information.
The singer/songwriter has always had an eye for fashion too. Once he was personally asked by Fenton Bailey if he could photograph him for a GQ Italia shoot. So during the calm before the storm, we asked Lockett to sit down with us to pick out his favourite items from our latest SS19 collection and other brands on our site, here’s what he chose and why...
