8 Modern Fashion Icons

8 Modern Fashion Icons
Over the last decade, men have become increasingly more conscious of what they wear and how they wear it. Thus, we have a whole new set of iconic modern style icons to take inspiration from.  Read more Men’s Style Guide features and check out our Store. Men of the world have moved away from the standard, a pair of jeans and a T-shirt will do frame of mind and are now realising that dressing well is actually OK and a lot more fun. So with menswear on the rise, where did all this new fuss over men's fashion come from? Other than from the designer world, famous faces can take some credit for the style changes. Whether you're into preppy suits, unique street wear and trainers or effortlessly casual day to day looks, the modern man has become a style icon. Here is our list of the best modern fashion icons.

Kanye West

The rapper has come onto the scene in some of the most famous ways possible, firstly, of course, because of his music, plus being married into one of the most well known families and now because of his own clothing range. Being in the spot light isn't an obscurity for Kanye West, so dressing well 24/7 has to be done. Street wear styles are key - jeans with rips and detailed design features are always there. Hoodies and long line T-shirts are another staple favourite. Kanye experiments with textures and always keeps outfits subject to a single colour palette. All black attire or his love for ripped blue jeans and Timberlands, whatever you're street style, Kanye would have pulled it off.

Jack Guinness

With a whole host of celebrity friends, Jack Guinness is constantly being invited to parties, dinner parties and anything else you can think of. Having a style that's effortlessly cool, and being a top model with a famous beard, fashion is just something that naturally happens. Bold suits with textures and patterns that you'd think would make your tummy turn, actually work and are pulled off with confidence and style. Why not wear a boldly checked suit or a velvet dinner jacket and jeans? If you've got it, flaunt it. And if you haven't, well you may as well give it a go. Keep the clothes fitted and if you're scared of head to toe pattern, opt for just the trousers and a plain jacket.

Tom Hardy

He may not be the first person you think of when it comes to high fashion and he's not one to follow fashion trends but his effortless style (literally) is something that the modern man should enjoy. Casual but trendy, Tom hardy's one of those secret male fashion icons that generally just wears clothes because he has to. He may be a bit old school and basically wears clothes to please himself, but he has something kind of fashionable about him. So forget about the designer pieces and go back to basics. Jeans and a jacket, or a three piece suit if you ever need to hit up the red carpet. Sometimes not over thinking it works best, and we have Tom Hardy to thank for that.

Pharrell Williams

Mixing pieces that shouldn't go together but somehow do is a big talent of Pharrells. Colours, patterns, textures and styles, all working well to create outfits that aren't your standard run to the shop attire, but ones that are a bit more exciting. The modern fashion icon fuses trends and street style pieces together and comes out with looks that get the paparazzi snap happy. Risk taking is big in fashion and Pharrells not afraid to make a statement. Making history as the first guy to be featured in a Chanel bag campaign, the star does what he wants when it comes to fashion and what better way to be? If you like it wear it (within reason of course).

Harry Styles

From One Direction, to a solo career, to acting, Harry Styles has been in the spot light and is a celebrity fashion icon in his own right. Winning a British Fashion Award for is own style in 2013 saw the start of his journey towards Saint Laurent, Burberry and Gucci clothing. Harry Styles' modern style pushes boundaries and has him wearing suits straight from the catwalk. Not afraid of going bold, florals, bright colours and aztec prints are what Harry's wardrobes filled with. Starting with loose shirts and Chelsea boots to now being seen in every kind of show stopping suit you can imagine, the singer is definitely a male fashion icon.

Jaden Smith

Always hitting the red carpet with something new, Jaden Smith is one to push the boundaries of fashion. His most recent red carpet headline had him holding his cut off dreads in his hand as an accessory. Not many people can get away with that, so maybe don't try that at home, but definitely give his other styles a go. Never being predictable, Jaden Smith has always been one to experiment. Firstly, he was one of the first to wear women's clothing in a Louis Vuitton campaign, where he stated that he wears skirts to combat bulling. The son of Will Smith was never going to be a quiet one, and when it comes to fashion he is a major men's fashion icon. But when he's not blurring the gender gap, Jaden has the streetwear look down to a tee.

Conor McGregor

Boring doesn't seem to be a word that you'd associate with Conor McGregors career, or wardrobe for that matter, as the clothing he comes out in is always vibrant, big and in your face, (much like his fighting style). Tailoring and bold statements would be how you'd describe the champions style, and his love for fur, pattern and big labels definitely makes him a men's icon. The Irish fighter has brought to us a selection of casual, tracksuit and jean outfits, as well as some well tailored ensembles. Either way, his outfits are loud and consist of as much colour and texture as he can get away with. Not really caring about what people say about his clothing choices make McGregor one to look for when he steps out in his next big outfit.
