Denim Shirt Outfits
You don't need to go for an expensive Levi's denim shirt to create a good outfit (unless you know, you've got the spare cash) and it's how you dress up your shirt that's really important. So, what are the key outfits that you can put together with your denim shirt? We'll show you a few example, just so that the next time you wonder how to wear a jean shirt, you'll have a few ideas.
Denim Shirt and Bomber Jacket
The great thing about denim shirts is that because of their thick, heavy texture you can dress them up differently to a standard cotton shirt. Try layering a simple white T-shirt under your denim shirt, and add a pop of colour with a tan jacket. If you're worried about the mix of colours you can easily tone down the rest of the outfit with some simple black chinos, ensuring you don't have an overloaded look.
Denim Shirt and Chinos
Thinking of outfits with denim shirts can be tricky, so sometimes it's better to just keep things simple. Something clean and light toned like a white or cream pair of chinos will match well with a classic denim shirt, and you can create a minimalist yet statement look by keeping your shirt tucked in. Then it's as simple as pairing it with some comfortable brown shoes and you've got yourself a great summer outfit.
Double denim is one of those trends that's gained a lot of haters as well as supporters, but a denim shirt and jeans isn't such a terrible look if you do it right. Plus, if you work in different layers then the extra warmth means it's perfect for winter days. To pull off double denim it's important not to work with too many tones and to try and keep some consistency in the outfit. If you're layering a denim jacket over your denim shirt, make sure that it's a darker colour and is a similar tone to your jeans to keep the outfit unified.
Denim Shirt and Black Chinos
Another look that's simple, easy to throw on, and is great for Spring to Autumn months, is to add a small amount of layering underneath your denim shirt, but other than that leave it to stand out on its own. Team it with some classic black chinos or jeans, throw on some black shoes for a grounded look and you've got yourself a simple, minimalist look. There're so many ways to wear a denim shirt, but sometimes it's best to just keep it classy and subtle.
History of Denim
This fabric has very humble origins but with time it has become the undiscussed favourite material in the wardrobes of men, women, dogs, cats, you name it. I dare you to find someone who doesn't own any denim clothing items. As it always goes with the dear things from the past, denim has an interesting story. Since the 17th century, denim has been converted into just about anything.
Regardless of its true origin, denim's popularity is so vast that we can say that it belongs to all of us. A writer from the magazine American Fabrics said in 1969 that "denim is one of the world's oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young". With the likes of James Dean wearing denim utility jackets and the endless attempts to replicate that look, there's no better proof of denim's everlasting charm and popularity.
