Skepta has been listed as not only one of the best English grime artists and rappers but also as one of the most influential people in the UK this year. This is a man of many talents, and his fashion game's not too bad either. Let's take a look at his top ten style moments.Read more Men’s Style Guide features and check out our Store.
Skepta's fashion is laid back and relaxed. The grime scene has been rapidly growing since the early 2000s and Skepta is the perfect poster boy, showcasing all that the genre is about and has to offer. He is often seen sporting a tracksuit, but being well-dressed isn't about being able to pull on the most expensive tailoring there is. He has, of course, done this, as well as pulling out all the designer threads, but his roots lie within the humble tracksuit, in which he states are 'clothes for us' (the tracksuit mafia). Instead, being well-dressed is having the ability to pull something on that you feel comfortable in, that reflects you as a person and that you absolutely don. Skepta's tracksuits are iconic and tick all these boxes. This style guide will go through his ten best looks.
Supreme x Undercover
Let's start the list off with Skepta wearing the 2015 Supreme x Undercover collaboration. This look was paired with a simple beanie and layered over a white hoodie. This is an easy look to re-create - any coach jacket or mac will do. The beanie adds a nice touch for the colder months.
GQ Men of The Year Awards
For the past two years, Skepta has been listed as one of GQ's best-dressed men. In 2016 he placed 7th, beating the likes of David Gandy, James Bay and Oliver Cheshire. This year Skepta was named as the 16th best-dressed man - still pretty impressive, ranking above David Gandy, again, as well as ASAP Rocky, Harry Styles and Idris Elba. Celebrating his achievements - not only in the style department - Skepta attended this years' GQ Men of The Year Awards. This is an event where guests come suited and booted in their finest, and Skepta did not disappoint. He wore a Burberry outfit of an embellished navy overcoat, black suit trousers and a white shirt. He accessorised his suave look with a flat cap, a skull bracelet and some round sunglasses to contemporise the mood. It's a win for us.
Skepta for The Fader
Here we see Skepta in all his fashion tracksuit glory: the all-white tracksuit. This is a look that not many men are able to pull off, yet somehow Skepta simply kills the look. He has been spotted wearing an all-white tracksuit and accompanying white iconic Skepta hat before, like in his Shutdown music video and the hat which appears on the stamp on his award-winning album, Konnichiwa. The Fader featured Skepta as their cover star on their June/July 2015 issue, where he was styled in head to toe white. This is, by far, one of the best 'roadman outfits', which, like we said, is not easy to pull off. To get this look, you simply need a white tracksuit and a Skepta Nike cap to finish it off. Go for a pair of white trainers to complete the outfit.
Skepta for Uniqlo
March 2016 saw the announcement that Skepta had become one of Japanese brand Uniqlo. Being only one of six ambassadors, Skepta represented a huge part of what the youth of Britain is about and what the popular Grime scene has to offer. He added his tracksuit expertise to their flagship campaign boards. In this look, Skepta wears a grey tracksuit and a denim effect grey puffer gilet. These puffer gilets are trending right now, making this a great look to go for this winter.
Nasir Mazhar Skepta
Nasir Mazhar collaborated with Skepta on his spring/summer 15 main collection, and this collaboration saw the man himself walk down the catwalk. He was also involved in modelling for the brands' presentation, both of which showcased at London Collections: Men. Skepta wore an original Nasir Mazhar black tracksuit, tailored and created for Skepta alone. The all-black tracksuit was detailed with the Nasir Mazhar white logo strips, with a hood and a high front zip. This look was paired with some black Nike Air Force 1s. This look encases everything that's great about 'chav outfits'.
Skepta Fashion Week
Skepta likes to make a mark on the places he visits, and at Paris fall/winter Fashion Week 2017, his mark was Chanel. He was seen wearing a seamless Chanel outfit - a nice switch up from his usual, more relaxed attire. This look sees Skepta in a plain black T-shirt layers with a bold, stand out patterned blue Chanel blazer. He wears these with a pair of grey checked trousers and a classic pair of trainers. We love how he easily combines the smart and causal aspects of his outfit. This look is accessorised with a flat cap, a pair of round sunglasses and some rings. Follow Skepta's lead by tucking your T-shirt into your trousers and detailing it with a silver clasped belt.
No style icons post would be the same without an appearance from Supreme. Here, we see Skepta take on the bold blue hoodie with the white 'S' blazing brightly on the front. He pairs this look with a pair of white tracksuit bottoms - classic Skepta - and a white cap. Naturally, he wears white trainers to finish off the two-tone outfit. This is a great way to add colour to your look, especially if you don't feel confident wearing more than one. Go for a standout colour hoodie and wear it with an all-white or all-black outfit.
Cross Body Bag
The cross body bag is another one of those pieces which are trending right now. Everyone has a cross body bag of some sort! The cross body bag is a trend that transforms the casual outfit into a practical outfit, whilst giving it another dimension and some stylish detailing. Most brands are now bringing out their own version and designs of this bag. Below, Skepta wears his black cross body bag over an orange Nike T-shirt whilst performing on stage. He teams these with some grey track pants and a cap. Note, when Skepta wears colour, he mutes down the rest of the outfit so that it does not look confused and clashed. Are guys finally seeing the use in carrying a bag?
