Key Street Style Trends from New York Fashion Week: Men's

||||||||||

With the first ever New York Fashion Week: Men's drawing to a close at the weekend, we thought it would be a good time to wade through the plethora of street style images and highlight the many valuable style lessons we learned from those in attendance.

Judging by what we've seen so far, the fusion of sportswear and casual tailoring remains ever-popular, as does the prevalence of bold logos daubed across shirts, T-shirts and outerwear. Unsurprisingly, there was also plenty of monochrome and all-black-everything ensembles on show, reaffirming the fact that all-black is possible during the warmer weather just as long as you opt for lightweight, relaxed fits.

Take a look at five of our favourite trends we spotted below, and keep an eye on our own Street Style section for regular updates with the best looks from around the UK and further afield.

Simplicity Reigns Supreme

We bang on about things like florals and all-over prints from time to time, but sometimes the most simple outfits can be the best. On the surface this isn't the most groundbreaking ensemble you'll have ever seen, but it's the subtle nonchalance of the half-tucked in white T-shirt, the pleated front trousers and baker boy cap that really caught our eye.

T-shirts and Tailoring

There's plenty of evidence of guys attempting the whole blazer with T-shirt look up and down the country on a Friday night, but very rarely is it pulled off with the same vigour as these two here. Once again it's all down to the details; from the crisp white crew neck to the tasteful accessories, this is a perfect example of how simple and effective this look can be if you nail the basics.

Lightweight Layering

No matter what time of the year it is, a degree of layering will often be required. Whether you're faced with the possibility of an impromptu downpour or a sudden drop in temperature, having a few light layers you can throw on or take off will ensure you're prepared for whatever the weather man failed to tell you. The addition of a retro basketball jersey underneath a denim shirt is a fresh take on the sort of light layering we saw a lot of in London, Italy and Paris.

No-Nonsense Neutrals

While tonal black and blue looks are still probably the most ubiquitous of their kind, neutral heavy ensembles have proved increasingly popular as the mercury rises. In addition to the various stone, beige and heather grey hues, the multiple lightweight layers make this a perfect example of how to nail summer layering.

Raw Hems

Although still a bit of a micro-trend, the fraying of trouser and denim hems has been gaining momentum in recent months. Not only is it an easy and effective way to add a rugged edge to your outfit, but it's also a great way of giving an old pair of jeans a new lease of life. If you're keen to give this a go then be sure to check out our guide here.
