Das Kino - The After Work Saviour

Das Kino - The After Work Saviour

Firmly planted in the heart of Nottingham, Das Kino offers a unique experience. Influenced by an iconic German cinema, the bar and kitchen is filled with vintage furniture, neon lights and ping pong.

Being invited to experience the ‘After Work Club’ at Das Kino we didn’t think twice before accepting after hearing about the price cutting deals on their beloved pizza menu and mouth watering cocktails. We arrived on a Friday after a long working week and an even longer day spent dreaming about what was in store for us. Walking into the rustic building we first caught a glimpse of the novelty themed venue as we headed past the ‘50s style photobooth in the entrance.

We were seated along the back wall facing the brightly lit bar full of shining beer pumps clips showing the array of beer on offer. Sipping on a fruitful prosecco we soaked up the atmosphere with others walking in after their 9-5’s finished and others who were rewarding their long shopping trip in the city with bubbles and food. Rather surprisingly for 6pm it was already busy with people treating themselves to the Friday menu which included two for one pizza. If that’s not your thing, then the kitchen also cooks up a storm with pizza fries (more pizza you think, well it’s why they’re loved), a selection of chicken wings, burgers and plenty of sides.

After a short wait our pizza’s were served. Four large pizza’s were placed in front of us, The Big Lebowski, with bacon, sausage, chicken, pepperoni, jalapenos and red onion pizza. Slumdog Millionaire with chicken, mango chutney and mint sauce drizzled over the top. Ulysses with a garlic base dressed with black olives, mozzarella, red onion and spinach. Then finally a vegan version of the Ulysses with a tomato base and vegan cheese. We were officially stuffed like a pizza crust. There were no complaints, it was exactly was what we needed and wanted from the ‘After Work Club’.

Once our pizza had settled we couldn’t help but glance down at the drinks menu, pondering what they had on offer. For a uniquely themed bar their cocktail selection remains classic offering Mojitos, Margaritas, Pina Colada, Old Fashioned and many more traditional cocktails. At the bottom of the drinks menu they had “extra special gin and tonics” including Bloom, a strawberry, mint and aromatic tonic gin cocktail which was as delicious as it sounds.

Whether you’re there for food or drinks you can try your hand at ping pong on the Olympic sized ping pong tables. With three tables on offer it’s recommended that you book a slot on weekends as it’s a very popular hit. However, if you’re there for their ‘After Work Club’ it’s completely free to play, you just have to ask for the paddles and away you go!

So if you’re finishing work in Nottingham with friends on a Friday from 5pm to 8pm then Das Kino’s should definitely be on your hit list for a tipple at their ‘After Work Club’ or any other day/time for that matter to enjoy their delicious menu.
