Crown Duels, have had a steady rise in popularity over the past two years and show no signs of slowing down. They’ve been backed by the likes of B.Traits, Mistajam and De$ignated, on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, as well as playing all over the globe – with a strong following in Asia. They’ve even been given official remix duties for none other than Beyonce – heights that are rather hard to beat.
Rob Tanzy – one half of the exciting duo – agreed to a quick chin-wag about our recent sponsorship of Crown Duels and the plans he has for the future. With his own record label ‘Bear Fresh’ and two Juno chart-topping LPs ‘City and Rural’ Vol. I and II, he’s got quite a reputation already. Pay attention, exclusive info follows.
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to chat with us. How has 2014 been treating you? Any major highlights?
No problem at all. Yes it’s been a real busy year, mostly working on loads new material, lots of remixes and plenty of things in the pipeline with Bear Fresh. The major highlights for 2014 have included a 3 week tour of China and next month we have a new Crown Duels release which I’ve been waiting to come out for a while now. The track is called ‘Easily’ and it is a collaboration with ‘DrDr’. It’s out 17th September on O.D Music Group label.
What are your aspirations as a producer and DJ?
Well a 12 inch vinyl release would be great to put on the studio wall for sure. Looking to really step up and develop our live performance ready for 2015. I’m looking forward to experimenting with different bits of kit to see what works and working out what we can add to our live sets.
Who’s your biggest influences/inspirations both in and out of music?
Still loving 123mrk and I also get a lot of inspiration listening to film scores recently.
What other projects do you have on the go?
At the moment I’m working on a remix for Crookers, a few for my label, Bear Fresh, along with 2 new EPs. One will be more bass driven and the other EP will showcase the more musical side of Crown Duels.
You’ve recently become part of The Idle Man entourage. Why do you think the two industries are so intertwined?
Yes, thanks for bringing us on board. Music and fashion have always gone hand in hand. With the increase of social media, even more so these days. You see a lot of clothing companies promoting artists and vise versa.
What labels are you feeling and wearing at the moment?
I’m really feeling the Cuckoo collection and the Farah vintage label.
What for the rest of 2014 and beyond?
I’m actually just in talks of doing a big tour later in the year to promote the release of ‘Easily’. Visiting China again and this time the tour could include Korea, Japan and Hong Kong so I’m super excited to see the dates and the venues.
Keep up to date with Crown Duels on the following:
