As well as famously being Earnest Hemingway's drink of choice, the classic Cuban Mojito has soared in popularity over the past decade with nearly every bar worth it's salt offering refreshing and tasty variations of the much-loved cocktail.
So with the warm weather lurking, we thought we'd ask our pals at Havana Club UK to give us some pointers on how to make the perfect mojito if you're entertaining friends or attempting to impress a young lady over the coming months.
Don't forget to follow Havana Club UK on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to find out more about their pop-up Casa Havana Mojito bars happening across London this summer where you can learn how to mix a Mojito for free.
For 1 Cuban Mojito you will need...
- 1 Collins glass
- 2 teaspoons of white granulated sugar
- 1 lime
- 3 sprigs of mint
- 1 cup of ice cubes
- a dash of sparkling water
- 4 capfuls of Havana Club Rum
Squeeze juice of half a fresh lime into a glass and add 2 teaspoons of white sugar. Stir with a spoon or swirl the glass around until sugar is dissolved.
Tap 2 whole fresh mint sprigs on the back of your hand to release the fragrant aromas. Fold mint & place in your glass. Gently muddle the mint a few times with the end of a wooden spoon.
Fill glass with ice. Use Havana Club Tres Años bottle cap to pour four caps of rum over the ice, then top up with sparkling water.
Give your Mojito a gentle stir. Then, garnish with a sprig of mint and add a straw. Now sit back and enjoy!
