Check out the rest of our City Guide features.
Marseille is more than just a beautiful seaside city, and to find the beating heart of this historic area we need guides who know the place inside out.
Amine Edge & DANCE are a music duo who gained fame with their unique and creative tracks and remixes, leading them to be top of the Beatport charts and on the playlists of some of the most influential DJs.
Where’s the best place for a first date?
Amine Edge & DANCE: It's cool to bring a girl to Mama Shelter. It’s an hotel but you can still have a drink or eat something there. The decoration is beautiful and it feels good when you’re there. They also always play good music.
Where’s your preferred place to chill and clear your head?
AE: My oldest friend and I like to hang out in a restaurant called Le Naka. We eat and relax and talk about life, news, and our past times when we were kids and crazy.
D: Yeah they do some amazing goat cheese tempura, it’s so good.
Where serves the best breakfast?
AE: I don’t know. I've only had breakfast at mine.
D: I think French people aren't into breakfast as much as English people. I actually never go out for breakfast, I just stay home and drink a coffee with a cigarette.
Where’s your favourite place to have a quiet drink?
AE: Oogie. Sometimes it's quiet, sometimes it's noisy, but there's always a good noise and a good vibe.
D: Yeah Oogie & Le Pointu are the best places to have a drink. We know everybody there and it’s always cool to get drunk with our friends.
Where’s your favourite place to have a messier night?
AE & D: At La Dame Noir DANCING. It's where we see our friends and party with good people and good music.
How would you describe your city’s style?
AE & D: There's many genres. Very urban in some areas in the north, very beautiful in the south with the beaches and the amazing views on the sea. They rebuilt the center recently, so that's become really trendy. This city is for all tastes and all the genres of people.
Where are your favourite places to shop?
AE: Back in the day it was Sweet Sofa, a vinyl shop owned by two guys who became good friend afterward (DJ Paul & DJ Giorgio) but it's been closed for a few year now. For shopping theres nothing much where I live. I mostly shop in the US.
D: Marseille is really not the best place for shopping. There is just a nice sneaker shop called Corner Street though.
What song sums up your city?
AE & D: "Shit Squad - Le Retour Du Shit Squad". It's a 7mn Hip Hop track by all the finest rappers of the town made back in 97. If you're from Marseille you'll know this track. It's the theme favourite song of all the smokers here. Weed's ultimate theme song, haha.
