Where’s the best place for a first date?

I really started to discover Antwerp about one and a half years ago. I would advise anyone to go to the Jazzcafé called ‘De Muze’ for (first) dates. It’s a historical place in the old city centre filled with an eclectic mix of people listening to live jazz music. Nobody cares who you are, you just come in and listen to some of the most amazing bands in a very cosy area.

Where’s your preferred place to chill and clear your head?

The yacht harbour next to my place is awesome! It’s very open and spacious. I love Antwerp because there’s a lot of water, boats and wind to clear my mind and give me a fresh feeling. Just having a walk there really makes me feel good.

Where serves the best breakfast?

Coffeelabs in the centre is very cozy. During summer they have a rooftop garden where you can chill and work or have a drink and a laugh, but it’s an all season place for sure!

Where’s your favourite place to have a quiet drink?

Sips is a very cute little cocktail bar in the south part of the city. It’s run by a famous mixologist.. The interior is brown, the lights are dim and the music is smooth. I love it.

Where’s your favourite place to have a messier night?

Café d’Anvers is the place to be for sure. The walls sweat house and techno beats for over 25 years. Recently Club Vaag opened it’s doors. It’s smaller but it’s the perfect combination with Café d’Anvers for me. They are at a stones throw from each other so you can just walk from one club to the other. They both have a very particular atmosphere … you can definitely loose track of time in both of them.

How would you describe your city’s style?

I would say Antwerp is more like a big town than a city. Everything is super close to each other. You can just walk to cross it, you don’t feel pressurised, it’s a relaxing city with a lot of history. I can be moody sometimes and the water everywhere is a good thing for me! I really feel like home and sometimes even like I'm on vacation. There are old buildings everywhere and there is a great energy around! You also feel that people who live here are proud of the city, love and protect it.

Where are your favourite places to shop?

I don't really do a lot of shopping in Antwerp but you can find lots of stores in the main pedestrian area called De Meir, there are also some cool stores in the Kammenstraat.

What song sums up your city?

Yann Tiersen - Comptine d'un autre été, the city releases a kind of melancholy that turns out positive, this song gives me the same feeling.
