Hudson has established its brand as one of the important and relevant men’s footwear brands in the UK. The London company born in 1990 has produced affordable shoes of the highest quality for the last two decades that can rival any other company. It’s not just the quality that makes Hudson so renowned, it’s their ability to take classic silhouettes and current footwear trends to create modern adaptions, which gives Hudson’s shoes a personality of its own.

Even though they deliver the classics like the chukka or penny loafer very well, often, Hudson’s use of colour and material make their footwear very distinct and recognised for innovation.

With such a range of footwear, it's clear that they're on the ball all the time. This had us wondering what it takes to come up with the ideas for what they create. So, with our curiosity getting the better of us, Idle HQ contacted Hudson’s creative director Victoria Haddon. She explains what exactly goes on in a day of the life of a creative director and she gives us her exclusive opinion of what is her favourite item from Hudson’s SS16 range.

How Does Your Morning Start Before you Head Off to Hudson’s HQ?

I walk my dog then drive to work. It’s my time to listen to the radio and gather my thoughts for the day – I often come up with my best ideas during that hour.

What’s the First Activity That Needs Doing When You Get to Work?

I usually catch up with the team, check my e-mail, then look at any new samples that have come in. Our office is very open plan so you always get to catch up with what’s happening in marketing and sales as well as design.

Where Do You Get Most of Your Inspiration for Your Collections?

We travel a lot each season to a different city and with our HQ being in East London you only need to walk down the road to see someone or something that sparks the imagination. Music is another big inspiration for me. I’m currently listening to the new Savages album, Jenny Beth has an amazing androgynous look, and the new Fat White Family track, grunge at it’s best.

Where Can we Find You Most of The Day?

Either at my desk or in our design room talking about shoes/drawing shoes/looking at shoes…..we are quite literally surrounded by shoes.

What Do We Need to be Looking out for in the Hudson’s SS16' collection?

We have some lovely hand-woven shoes, perfect for summer; we’ve really expanded our range of these styles and hoping they will become a seasonal staple.  We have also experimented with new finishing treatments on our handcrafted brogues and boots.

What’s Your Favourite Piece from the SS16 Collection?

I love the Hudson London Somme Tan Drum Dye Brogue, it’s a classic but with a contemporary shape and a rich leather finish.

What are The Aims For AW16?
