We're opening the doors to The Idle Man. The IdleInsider is our way of showing you the real Idle, a behind the scenes look at our projects and an insight into the people who make Idle. There is good work here that goes undocumented and in our second Insider feature with caught up with Bryan - Brands Buyer at The Idle Man.
Bryan, or as we like to call him, Dangerous Bryan (don't ask) is responsible for buying and sourcing our branded collections. Working with our current brands and finding emerging talent to grow and improve the branded collections we house at The Idle Man. Having just got back from his New York and Paris buying trips, we sat down with the man himself to talk day-to-day life at The Idle Man and discover what makes him tick.
When did you join The Idle Man?
I joined The Idle Man two months ago, so I am one of the newer members of The Idle Man team - its been great so far.
What does a typical day look like for you at the Idle Man?
My days can be very varied, some days I am out and about at appointments looking at new collections, meeting designers and talking through their assortments. Other days I'm in the office researching and looking for interesting new brands and products for us to work with.
Tell us something we don't already know about you?
I am a hoarder and collector and have been since I was a child. Collecting is something that I have always done for fun but also as a way to make some extra cash. My collections have accumulated over the years - I have everything from motorcycle parts to vintage Fire King coffee mugs, furniture pieces, Vintage BMX's and skateboards but the things I've consistently liked to collect are definitely books and records. I have hundreds of these.Would you say that your collections inspire you?
Definitely. I really like finding something in a place where it shouldn’t be, I love to go to charity/thrift shops and car boot sales or flea markets and will never not find something interesting or new when I go. Sometimes the things I find are so out of context to the areas that I am in - but that’s what makes it impossible to walk past! I think you can tell a lot about an area just by the kinds of records and books they have stacked in their charity shops. What is the best part of the job?
The travel. It's a huge part of what I do and this is definitely one of my favourite aspects of the job. Working as a buyer has taken me all over the world and I get to go different places and meet people in the industry.

What's your favourite piece from the Idle Man collection?
The Idle Man Made In England Rain Mac in Navy is my favourite piece. Its a classic and for me it's a great travel piece to throw in my suitcase, and if you need to look a little smarter in the evening it works for that too.
