History of Asics
Founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka in his hometown of Kobe, Japan, Asics began trading as Onitsuka Co., Ltd in 1949. Onitsuka began manufacturing basketball trainers before near instant international acclaim allowed him to broaden the variety of sports he supplied for. His new varieties of Asics trainers were a staple for Olympians and athletes across the world during the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. After merging with GTO Co.Ltd and JELENK Co. Ltd., in 1977, Onitsuka Tiger change it’s name and became Asics Corporation. The name hasn’t been lost to history as it still lives on to this day with the Onitsuka Tiger label being produced and sold worldwide to maintain it’s legacy.
